Last weekend I dropped by an annual Yorkshire scarecrow festival and thought that I’d post up a few pics of the occasion. Villagers and local businesses joined forces in true community spirit and put forward their creations. Luckily the weather held out and the event pulled in numerous visitors who had come from the neighbouring towns and cities to view this super straw medley of mishapen monsters. The first prize as far as I know went to the ‘Scaeroplane.’
Many of the UK’s villages have being holding scarecrow festivals for a good few years. I doubt that hardly any of these creations will be used for deterring the crows this week, they’ve probably been put back into the attic or most likely dismantled. I’ve read that in Nova Scotia, Canada they do a similar thing with their ‘Pumpkin People’ festival; they put pumpkin heads on their scarecrows every fall – this must be a pretty good display if not quite sinister. Anyway, enjoy…
